Our muffles are manufactured from leather, a natural product. Ensure you wipe over the clapper with a cloth first to remove any dust, before fitting, to prevent the back of the muffle being contaminated, then follow the fitting instructions.

The muffles need to be stored in the muffle bag provided away from damp areas, in an area where there is natural air circulation. Ideally, this should be within the ringing chamber or intermediate chamber. When stored, always ensure that the velcro muffles are rolled ‘soft side up’ as this stops the muffles from sticking to each other and other unwanted items. The velcro fixing straps on the muffles can very easily be contaminated with fluff and dirt if left just lying around in a belfry or ringing chamber. If this happens, the locking capability of the velcro can be ruined, and the muffles rendered useless.

 

The hook tape is of an industrial type and may cause damage to other clothing or garments if it comes into contact with them. We cannot be held liable for this.

Should your muffles go mouldy after an extended period of storage, cleaning the leather with white vinegar will remove the mould from the muffles.​

 

To keep the leather supple, neatsfoot oil, or mink oil is traditionally recommended; a vegetable alternative is to consider olive oil rubbed into the leather, but it may leave a residue.
